Billed as "Chick's Birthday," the bill at Dizzy's Club pairs Grammy Award–winning pianist Chick Corea with Cuban pianist and composer Elio Villafranca in the Afro-Caribbean Experience. Corea is the subject of an upcoming documentary that examines the creative process behind The Spanish Heart Band – Antidote, while Villafranca brings Grammy-nominated recordings, a JALC Millennium Swing Award and teaching posts at Manhattan School of Music, Temple and Juilliard.
About the Artists
Elio Villafranca
Elio Villafranca is a Cuban jazz pianist and composer. He was born in the Cuban province of Pinar del Río, and studied in the faculty of music of the Instituto Superior de Arte in Havana. He worked on Things I Wanted to do by Chembo Corniel, which was nominated for Best Latin Jazz Album at the 2010 Grammy Awards; his album Cinque was nominated in 2020.
