    At Dizzy's Club, Carl Allen’s Messengers of Jazz present a tribute to Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers. Allen, an American drummer and bandleader, leads a lineup that invokes Blakey's long-running collective. The Jazz Messengers operated for more than thirty-five years and Blakey often emphasized working with younger musicians, saying, "Yes sir, I'm gonna to stay with the youngsters."

    The Jazz Messengers were a jazz combo which existed for over thirty-five years beginning in the early 1950s as a collective, and only ended when long-time leader and founding drummer Art Blakey died in 1990.
