The Steadfast Tin Soldier New York Performances

At Puppetworks, **The Steadfast Tin Soldier** is staged as a traditional marionette show, pairing Andersen’s spare fairy tale with **Nutcracker Sweets** for a family audience. The story follows a one-legged toy soldier whose fixed gaze on a paper ballerina becomes a lesson in devotion, chance, and what toys “endure” once the room goes dark. No specific New York City premiere history is widely documented, but the work’s long afterlife on stage speaks to its usefulness as a moral fable. In puppet form, its emotional distance can read as the point rather than a limitation.
