About Romeo and Juliet(ballet)
Prokofiev’s *Romeo and Juliet* translates Shakespeare’s feud-bound tragedy into a full-length classical ballet, built from a 1930s score later refined for its 1940 stage life. In New York, the music and story sit in a long performance history, especially through landmark 20th-century productions that helped make it repertory currency for major companies. Here, choreographer Juliano Nunes places the Philadelphia Ballet inside the Guggenheim’s spiraling interior, with the New Jersey Symphony in support. The setting turns the lovers’ pursuit into something partly architectural, narrowing and widening the drama as bodies move through space.
