    About This Event

A program centered on Ludwig van Beethoven's complete piano sonatas reaches its fifth installment, titled "The Transition to Heroism," at Bargemusic. The evening pairs performance and conversation to trace Beethoven's move from Classical forms toward the heroic rhetoric of his middle period and to situate these sonatas within contemporary New York performance practice.

    About Piano sonatas (complete)

Ludwig van Beethoven wrote 32 mature piano sonatas between 1795 and 1822. Although originally not intended to be a meaningful whole, as a set they comprise one of the most important collections of works in the history of music. Hans von Bülow called them "The New Testament" of piano literature.
