Thao Nguyen, who records and performs as Thao, is an American singer-songwriter based in San Francisco, first widely known as the front person and primary writer for Thao & the Get Down Stay Down. Her songs pull from folk structures, country inflections, and hip-hop rhythm, and she has worked in collaborative settings with artists including Joanna Newsom, Andrew Bird, Merrill Garbus, Mirah, and the Portland Cello Project.
