UCB is an improv and sketch comedy collective rooted in the Upright Citizens Brigade tradition, which emerged from Chicago’s ImprovOlympic scene in 1990 and later established a home in New York City at the UCB Theatre. The group’s work has also reached television through a variety-format sketch series built around live audience performance. Onstage, UCB’s character teams develop new personas and short-form premises, as heard in season openers like Betty Night. Their comedy tends to favor speed, commitment, and clear game over polish.
