Character *SEASON PREMIERE* BETTY NIGHT Come see the twisted geniuses of UCB’s character house team!
About This Event
At the UCB Theatre, the character house team's season premiere, Betty Night, presents new character work by the company’s resident performers. The Upright Citizens Brigade grew out of Chicago's ImprovOlympic in 1990; early members included Amy Poehler, Matthew Walsh, Matt Besser and Ian Roberts, and the group's roots in improvisation and sketch continue to inform its approach.
About BETTY NIGHT
At UCB Theatre, *Betty Night* marks the season opener for the house character team, built around newly developed personas performed by the company’s resident players. The format foregrounds character as craft, letting voices, social types, and private logics accumulate into comic scenes rather than sketch premises. UCB’s New York presence carries the lineage of a troupe formed in 1990 from Chicago’s ImprovOlympic ecosystem and later anchored in downtown Manhattan performance culture. The show’s value is in how it treats comedy as observation, not punchline delivery.
