About Tim Ries Septet

Tim Ries Septet is a New York City–based jazz group led by saxophonist, composer, and arranger Tim Ries, heard regularly at Smalls Jazz Club. Ries has moved between rock, jazz, classical, and experimental work, and he is widely associated with The Rolling Stones Project. He also teaches jazz studies at the University of Toronto, now in his third decade on faculty. The septet format lets him balance composed frameworks with open improvisation, favoring structure over spectacle.
