Steve Vai is an American guitarist, composer, and producer whose career began in the late 1970s, first working behind the scenes transcribing music for Frank Zappa before joining Zappa’s touring band in the early 1980s. He later built a long-running solo catalog while also taking high-profile roles with bands led by David Lee Roth and Whitesnake. In New York-area performances, he appears at The Beacon Theatre with Joe Satriani as the SatchVai Band, and at NJPAC with BEAT alongside Adrian Belew, Tony Levin, and Terry Bozzio. His playing favors precision and formal construction over blues convention.
