Max Light is a New York City–based jazz guitarist working between straight-ahead language and freer forms. At Bar Bayeux he leads regular sets, including Thursday happy hour performances, and appears in duet formats that leave space for abrupt turns and close listening. In collaborations with saxophonist-composer Adam Kolker, the music often balances Kolker’s compositional instincts with open improvisation. Light’s playing favors economy over display, letting texture and timing do the work.
