Charles Burchfield: Performing Artist in New York

About Charles Burchfield

Charles Burchfield was an American watercolorist whose work turns weather, yards, and ordinary structures into charged motifs. Much of his mature production was developed in the dedicated studio behind his home in West Seneca, with additional studies made outdoors and later reworked on paper. His approach favors close observation over spectacle, using watercolor to register sound, heat, and seasonal change as lived experience. In New York City, his legacy is revisited at Whitney Exhibitions in *Charles Burchfield: Elemental*.
