About Agadez
Agadez takes its name from the Nigerien story of music and resistance popularized in the 2010 documentary-drama centered on Tuareg guitarist Omara “Bombino” Moctar and the scene around him. Onstage in New York City, the project appears at PACNYC: the Perelman Performing Arts Center, presented in dialogue with percussionist and composer Mauro Durante. The work draws on Saharan guitar traditions, documentary narrative, and ensemble interplay rather than conventional musical plotting. Its performances favor directness and rhythm over spectacle.
