Stan Getz: Jazz Musician in New York

About Stan Getz

Stan Getz was an American jazz tenor saxophonist whose recorded work spans the mid-1940s through the early 1990s. He is closely associated with cool jazz and, later, the bossa nova collaborations that brought him together with Antônio Carlos Jobim, shaping a widely heard strain of Brazilian jazz in the U.S. His playing favors a rounded tone and melodic continuity over display, even when the harmony turns. In New York City, his legacy surfaces in programs at venues such as Dizzy’s Club, including the Getz/Jobim centennial celebration led by Oran Etkin.
