Sexmob is a New York City jazz group formed at the Knitting Factory as a working band for Steven Bernstein’s slide trumpet. Over the years, the ensemble has built its sets around familiar pop and rock tunes, treated as raw material for playful, angular rearrangements. Their approach echoes an older jazz habit: taking a song everyone knows and rebuilding it from the inside out. At Dizzy’s Club, performances such as “Sexmob at 30” show a band that favors invention over polish.
