*Winged Migration* (2001), directed by Jacques Perrin with co-director Jacques Cluzaud, is a French documentary that follows migratory birds across continents, filmed largely from the birds’ altitude and pace. Using ultralight aircraft and hand-raised birds, the production stages close flight sequences that feel observational even when they are carefully engineered. The film’s texture comes from natural sound and a spare musical score rather than explanation. It had its New York premiere at the New York Film Festival in 2001.
