In Walked Bud

0 upcoming performances in New York

Thelonious Monk wrote “In Walked Bud” in 1947 as a coded tribute to fellow pianist Bud Powell, threading a familiar standard’s harmony into Monk’s own angular logic. The tune has since become a working language in New York jazz, turning up in clubs and bandstands where musicians test timing, wit, and restraint. At Dizzy’s Club, Brilliant Corners, Helen Sung, and DeWitt Fleming Jr. bring it into the present in a live jazz setting. Its lasting significance is how it turns friendship into form without turning sentimental.
