Strings of Soul (RBA)

1 upcoming performance in New York

At Roulette, **Strings of Soul (RBA)** brings together hammered dulcimer player **Max ZT**, vocalist **Kunal Gunjal**, and tabla player **Amit Kavthekar** for a classical program shaped by North Indian rhythmic lineage and cross-instrument translation. Kavthekar’s training traces directly to the **Alla Rakha** tradition and the pedagogical line associated with **Zakir Hussain**, anchoring the ensemble in a specific gharana-informed approach to time. ZT’s dulcimer reframes that rhythmic grammar through a Western instrument, while Gunjal’s voice holds the melodic thread. One clear takeaway is how the set treats “fusion” less as genre-mixing and more as a negotiation of discipline.
