Sleigh Ride

0 upcoming performances in New York

Leroy Anderson’s “Sleigh Ride” is a concert miniature that turns winter imagery into crisp orchestral motion, complete with percussive hoofbeats and a wink of comic timing. Written in the late 1940s and quickly adopted by American orchestras, it became a shared seasonal reference point, including in New York’s holiday concert tradition. At David Geffen Hall, the New York Philharmonic performs it in a matinee program led by Naomi Woo, with Wendell Pierce and Frank Huang featured elsewhere on the bill. Its craft is its argument: light music made with serious precision.
