Serenade No. 10 in B-flat major for winds, K. 361/370a ("Gran Partita")

1 upcoming performance in New York

Mozart’s Serenade No. 10 in B-flat, K. 361/370a, known as the “Gran Partita,” is a large-scale wind serenade scored for pairs of oboes, clarinets, basset horns, and bassoons, with four horns and a double bass. At David Geffen Hall, Louis Langrée leads the Mostly Mozart Festival’s ensemble in music that treats wind color as structure, not decoration. The work’s New York life has been shaped by the city’s long-standing wind and festival culture at Lincoln Center. One lasting impression is its slow movement, where a simple line becomes a study in balance and breath.
