Pippin

First seen on Broadway in 1972, *Pippin* sits in New York’s musical-theater lineage as a Stephen Schwartz score wrapped in a self-aware stage framework shaped by Bob Fosse’s original production. A troupe led by the Leading Player presents the story of a young prince testing war, love, and public life in search of purpose. The show keeps reminding the audience that it is being “made” in front of them, using interruption and commentary as structure. Its clearest point is also its critique: the hunger for significance can be staged, sold, and still remain unresolved.
