The Outsiders

Now playing at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre, *The Outsiders* brings S. E. Hinton’s 1967 coming-of-age story to the New York stage as a new musical. It follows Ponyboy Curtis and the Greasers as class lines harden into street conflict, and loyalty becomes both refuge and trap. The score draws on contemporary folk-rock textures, giving the material a roughened, lived-in sound. Its cultural staying power lies in how plainly it maps adolescence onto inequality, without offering easy exits.
