Ballet
Onegin
5 upcoming performances in New York
John Cranko’s *Onegin*, now in the repertory of American Ballet Theatre, reshapes Pushkin’s verse novel into a full-length narrative ballet set to Tchaikovsky, arranged and stitched into a dramatic score. The story follows Tatiana’s youthful confession, Onegin’s refusal, and the later reckoning that turns regret into fate. In New York, its presence at the Metropolitan Opera House reflects ABT’s long investment in literary, character-driven choreography alongside newer story ballets. Cranko’s clean staging keeps the psychology legible, and the dancing has to act as much as it moves.
