A new work titled *Odes* arrives at Roulette in Brooklyn, taking its cue from the long afterlife of Horace’s lyric poems, first issued in Rome in the late first century BCE and imitated for centuries. Here, that classical frame is filtered through Yvonne Rogers, a New York–based vocalist and bandleader associated with Ornithology and small-group collaboration. The program sits in a classical setting, but it treats “ode” as a living form rather than a museum object. The result reads as a study in how ancient structures keep reappearing in the city’s contemporary music life.
