L’Illusion Comique
0 upcoming performances in New York
Pierre Corneille’s *L’Illusion Comique* (1636) is an early experiment in theatrical self-awareness, built around nested performances that question what is “real” onstage. At L’Alliance New York, the work is presented as a live dance performance, with Red Bull Theater and Mirabelle Ordinaire among the featured performers, and framed to welcome younger audiences. Its NYC performance history is diffuse, but its influence is clear in later French and modern meta-theatre. One can argue the piece still functions as a lesson in how theatre manufactures belief.
