Forrópera

1 upcoming performance in New York

“Forrópera” arrives in New York as a hybrid opera that folds the pulse and social world of forró into an operatic frame. Now playing live at PACNYC: Perelman Performing Arts Center, it features performers Chrystal E. Williams and Felipe Hostins. The work uses dance-rooted music to shift opera from the salon to the street, asking what kinds of bodies and stories the form has room for. If this is its NYC premiere, it reads as part of the city’s ongoing redefinition of contemporary opera.
