Concerto for Violin and Percussion

1 upcoming performance in New York

At David Geffen Hall, the New York Philharmonic presents a contemporary “Concerto for Violin and Percussion” with soloists Michelle Kim-Solman and Michelle Kim, alongside composer-performer Nathalie Joachim. Written for two instruments that rarely share equal footing, the work sets the violin’s singing line against the percussion’s physical, time-keeping intelligence. In the context of Joachim’s program, it draws on and reframes musical materials linked to Caribbean, American, and Pan-African freedom movements. If this is its first New York appearance, it reads as a local marker of how the city’s major stages are widening what “classical” can hold.
