Celebrating Jimmy Heath

1 upcoming performance in New York

At Dizzy’s Club, drummer Akira Tana joins the Osaka Quartet with Hammond B-3 organist Atsuko Hashimoto for a set centered on the music of Jimmy Heath, the saxophonist-composer whose writing helped define modern jazz repertory. Hashimoto, born in Osaka, brings a documented history in organ-trio and organ-quartet formats, shaped by work in Japan and the United States. In New York, Heath’s city, the tribute reads less like nostalgia than continuity. The organ’s sustained harmonies cast Heath’s lines in a darker, more architectural light.
