Andrew Lloyd Webber’s *Cats* is a largely sung-through Broadway musical adapted from T. S. Eliot’s poems, structured around the Jellicle cats’ annual gathering and their decision over which one will be granted a new life. First arriving on Broadway in 1982, it became part of New York’s theatrical identity through its long run and its emphasis on movement as narrative. In *CATS: The Jellicle Ball*, now in NYC at the Broadhurst Theatre and PACNYC’s Perelman Performing Arts Center, the score is reframed through ballroom and club lineages, shifting the piece from character sketchbook toward communal ritual. One consequence is clarity: the ensemble becomes the story’s organizing intelligence.
