Boys and Girls in America

1 upcoming performance in New York

At Brooklyn Bowl, The Hold Steady frame “Boys and Girls in America” as a New York club-night document: rock and pop built from characters, street-level details, and shared choruses. The title echoes their 2006 album, recorded with producer John Agnello and introduced by the single “Chips Ahoy,” but the emphasis is on performance and narrative momentum. In a city that treats live music as civic ritual, the band’s sing-along structure functions like oral history set to guitars. Their earned insight is that community can be written into a set list.
