Black People and the Battle of Brooklyn
1 upcoming performance in New York
Presented live in Prospect Park, *Black People and the Battle of Brooklyn* uses art to revisit the 1776 conflict through the lives of Black New Yorkers—enslaved, free, and fighting on multiple sides. The piece sets local ground against national myth, asking what gets remembered when a city narrates its own origins. Staged outdoors, it returns history to a public commons rather than a museum wall. Its clearest insight is that Brooklyn’s founding story is also a story of labor, displacement, and contested citizenship.
