Bebop is not the 1940s jazz style, but a contemporary electronic DJ project that borrows the name’s implication of speed and harmonic restlessness. In a live set at Danger Danger, the emphasis shifts to structure in motion: quick transitions, knotty progressions, and improvisation routed through rhythm and texture rather than brass and changes. In New York, that lineage matters, where club culture has long translated jazz’s risk-taking into new tools. The critical point is that the concept reads most clearly when the set leaves room for surprise, not just momentum.
