ASSCAT

1 upcoming performance in New York

ASSCAT at UCB Theatre is the Upright Citizens Brigade’s long-running improvisation format, built from a single guest interview and expanded into a series of connected scenes. The group traces its roots to 1990 at Chicago’s ImprovOlympic, with early members including Amy Poehler, Matthew Walsh, and Matt Besser, before the form took on a distinct New York life at UCB’s stages. In a city that treats comedy as a nightly laboratory, ASSCAT functions like fieldwork, showing how fast social observation becomes narrative. It also makes the mechanics of ensemble timing visible without breaking the spell.
