Now on view at the Met, *Art of Native America: The Charles and Valerie Diker Collection* presents works from Indigenous nations across North America, with an emphasis on materials, form, and continuity of cultural practice. The exhibition enters a New York museum context where Native art has often been treated as ethnographic evidence rather than as art with its own histories and innovations. Seen here, the objects register as lived knowledge as much as aesthetic design. One can still feel the framing pressures of a major encyclopedic museum, even as the work pushes against them.
