Palmas New York Performances

Other “Palmas” takes its name from Palmas, the planned capital of Tocantins in northern Brazil, a young city built to serve as an administrative center and now home to hundreds of thousands, with a wider metro region approaching half a million. The work uses that geographic fact as a point of departure, tracing how new capitals manufacture identity while older histories persist at the edges. Presented live at Kupferberg Center for the Arts in New York, it reads as both portrait and inquiry. Its restraint is the point; it trusts urban detail over easy narrative closure.
