BEAT MUSIC New York Performances

At Public Records, BEAT MUSIC frames pulse as both structure and subject, led by drummer and composer Mark Guiliana. The project draws on the lineage of beat-driven popular forms that reshaped youth culture in the 1960s, but refracts that history through electronic sound design and contemporary jazz logic. In New York City—where club systems and improvising scenes have long shared musicians and methods—this set lands as a document of that overlap. Guiliana’s writing treats repetition as a compositional tool rather than a backdrop.
