Transcendental Études New York Performances

Franz Liszt’s *Transcendental Études* are twelve piano studies shaped over decades, moving from youthful drafts to the leaner, public version issued in the early 1850s. Each piece treats technique as structure, with repeated figures, abrupt harmonic shifts, and engineered contrasts that can read like the grammar of later rock and pop, even without amplification. In New York, Liszt has long been a recital-room mainstay since the city’s 19th‑century concert boom, and these études sit near the center of that lineage. One clear fact remains: virtuosity here is not decoration but the form itself.
