Niu Lai New York Performances

“Niu Lai” is known as a work that draws on Chinese cultural memory and everyday ritual, using plain materials and repeating actions to let meaning accrue over time. Its title points to a stubbornness or endurance, and the piece often reads as a study in persistence rather than plot. Seen in New York, it has circulated more through community and festival contexts than through major commercial venues, and a definitive NYC premiere history is not widely documented in public sources. One critical takeaway is how the work resists easy translation, and makes that resistance part of its subject.
