52nd Street Theme

0 upcoming performances in New York

“52nd Street Theme” traces a line back to Midtown Manhattan’s 52nd Street, the corridor where modern jazz found nightly footing in the 1940s and where musicians tested new language in small rooms. The tune’s title nods to that history, and to the Thelonious Monk standard that later helped fix the street in jazz memory. At Dizzy’s Club, Brilliant Corners, Helen Sung, and DeWitt Fleming Jr. place that lineage in the present, treating the theme less as a period piece than as a working map of the city’s sound.
