Pee-wee's Big Adventure New York Performances

Tim Burton’s first feature follows Pee-wee Herman as he crosses an American roadside landscape in pursuit of a stolen bicycle, building a chain of encounters that plays like a series of sketches with a clear through-line. Released in 1985, it arrived as studio comedy was making room for more personal, offbeat voices, and it helped establish Burton’s deadpan, storybook mood. The film became a touchstone for alt-comedy and design-forward filmmaking, with its best moments treating obsession as a form of innocence rather than irony. At Cassette, it sits inside a late-night program that also makes space for band-forward songwriting amid the venue’s electronic focus.
