Star Wars: A New Hope New York Performances

At NJPAC, the New Jersey Symphony performs John Williams’s film score live to George Lucas’s *Star Wars: A New Hope*, placing a blockbuster soundtrack inside the frame of a classical concert. First heard in 1977, the music helped reassert the late-Romantic orchestral style in American popular culture, and it has long had a parallel life in New York’s concert halls and recording studios. The score’s use of recurring themes gives the film a clear musical architecture, with the orchestra carrying narrative weight as much as atmosphere.
