Cabaret New York Performances

First staged in 1966, *Cabaret* traces nightlife inside Berlin’s Kit Kat Klub as the Weimar era gives way to political menace, using performance as both refuge and warning. The musical pairs John Kander and Fred Ebb’s songs with Joe Masteroff’s book, adapted from Christopher Isherwood’s Berlin stories via John Van Druten’s play. In New York, it became a landmark of Broadway’s darker turn, eventually winning major Tony recognition. At Sony Hall, Luann de Lesseps frames the material in a holiday cabaret format, a reminder that the form’s intimacy can sharpen its critique.
