SummerStage is City Parks Foundation’s seasonal performance series based in Central Park, in Manhattan. It began in 1986 and centers on an open-air stage at Rumsey Playfield, with additional programming presented in parks across the five boroughs. The schedule leans toward contemporary music and dance, with a mix of free shows and ticketed benefit concerts in warmer months. On a humid night, the park itself becomes part of the sound, carrying bass and applause out toward the treeline.
