About New York Transit Museum
The New York Transit Museum is based in Downtown Brooklyn, inside the disused Court Street subway station, and focuses on the history of the city’s subway, bus, and regional rail networks. Opened to the public in 1976, it presents rotating exhibitions alongside a collection of restored vintage subway cars and transit ephemera. A smaller annex operates inside Grand Central Terminal in Midtown Manhattan. The setting makes the story tangible: visitors move through a platform and mezzanine built for riders, now repurposed for interpretation and public programs.
