About Museum of Modern Art (MoMA)

The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) sits on West 53rd Street in Midtown Manhattan, a few blocks from Rockefeller Center. It opened in 1929 and now spans multiple floors of galleries alongside an auditorium used for film screenings, talks, and performance-based programs. The collection centers on modern and contemporary art, from painting and sculpture to photography, design, and media. The building’s clean lines and steady foot traffic make it feel less like a monument than a working laboratory for looking.
