An evening of Mozart and Scarlatti sonatas
About This Event
Groupmuse NYC presents sonatas by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Domenico Scarlatti. The program places Mozart’s classical-era sonatas alongside Scarlatti’s single-movement keyboard pieces to trace differences in form, texture and ornamentation. Set in a Groupmuse setting, the evening emphasizes close listening to shifts in harmonic language and keyboard technique.
About Sonatas(chamber)
“Sonatas” at Groupmuse NYC frames the sonata as a living form rather than a museum piece. The program sets Mozart’s classical sonatas beside Domenico Scarlatti’s compact, single-movement keyboard works, letting listeners track changes in structure, surface detail, and ornament. Specific New York premiere history is not clearly documented for this pairing, but the city’s long recital tradition makes this kind of close listening feel culturally native. One quiet insight emerges: form can be argument, not just container.
