MASS MoCA Records presents Alyssa Weinberg & Gabriel Cabezas - PIECES OF LIGHT Listening Party + Performance
About This Event
MASS MoCA Records presents a listening party and performance of PIECES OF LIGHT at Public Records, featuring electronic artist Alyssa Weinberg alongside cellist Gabriel Cabezas. The LA Times has noted Cabezas' ability to coax sounds not commonly associated with the instrument; that extended-cello approach will inform the live interplay with Weinberg's electronic textures.
About PIECES OF LIGHT
At Public Records, MASS MoCA Records brings *PIECES OF LIGHT* to New York in the form of a listening party and live set, pairing electronic composer Alyssa Weinberg with cellist Gabriel Cabezas. The project sits between album culture and performance, using electronics and extended cello technique to test how much narrative can be carried by timbre and space. Cabezas is known for drawing unfamiliar colors from the instrument, and here that approach becomes a structural element rather than an effect. This appears as an NYC debut presentation of the work, placing it in a local lineage of hybrid concert-listening formats.
