High Line Halloween: Gnome-topia

“High Line Halloween: Gnome-topia” is a seasonal, live program on the High Line that uses the park’s elevated landscape as a stage for Halloween-themed encounters centered on the folk figure of the garden gnome. Part street theater and part public art activation, it folds costume, miniature myth, and neighborhood foot traffic into an after-dark narrative about who gets to inhabit shared space. There is no established NYC premiere history attached to the work; its significance is local, built from how it temporarily recasts a familiar civic site. The concept lands best when it treats whimsy as a lens on public life rather than a decorative joke.
