A fixture of New York’s hard bop and bebop scene, Magnarelli expands his quartet language into a five‑piece format with tighter horn writing, direct melody statements, quick exchanges with the rhythm section and open‑ended solos that emphasize clarity and swing.

Joe Magnarelli Quintet
The Joe Magnarelli Quintet is led by trumpeter and flugelhornist Joe Magnarelli, a working figure in New York City’s hard bop and bebop circuit. At Smalls Jazz Club, the group extends the language Magnarelli often explores with his quartet, shifting it into a five-piece format with tighter horn writing and more room for contrast.
