Movie Nights: Beetlejuice

*Beetlejuice* is a Broadway musical adapted from Tim Burton’s 1988 film, with music and lyrics by Eddie Perfect and a book by Scott Brown and Anthony King. It follows a recently dead couple trying to reclaim their home, a grief-struck teenager named Lydia, and a chaotic “bio-exorcist” whose name becomes a ritual and a dare. The show premiered on Broadway in New York in 2019, part of the city’s continuing habit of translating cult cinema into stage language. Its sharpest insight is that comedy can sit beside mourning without canceling it.
